Ryan James Day

SailAhead's mission is to:

  • Use sailing and the ocean as a therapeutic platform to help heal PTSD suffering veterans
  • Spread PTSD and suicide awareness
  • Honor and remember Our Mates

Join Petro and SailAhead in celebrating Ryan James Day

Helping those we serve in our community is paramount for Petro. This means getting involved and supporting important local initiatives, like SailAhead and honoring Ryan James Day, to help military veterans who bravely served their country.

To honor Army Ranger SPC Ryan James Day, who tragically ended his life at the age of 21, SailAhead will celebrate his life and legacy during their 2017 Annual Event "Let's Take a Veteran Sailing" which will take place at Centerport Yacht Club on Sunday, August 6th, 2017. Ryan's parents Linda and Jim, as well as Ryan's two younger brothers Justin and Evan, will be the guests of honor. SailAhead is also expanding to the west coast this year, establishing themselves in the Seattle Tacoma area of Washington, organizing another event that will honor Ryan James Day. The reason for the event in Washington is that Ryan took his life while stationed at a military base in Tacoma.

About SailAhead

Based on Long Island, NY, SailAhead is a young, non-profit organization launched in 2013 by brothers Kilian and Sean Duclay when they were 14 and 16 years old. SailAhead uses sailing and the ocean to help military veterans suffering from PTSD. Officially established in June 2016 but actively healing since 2013, SailAhead has taken over 1,000 veterans to the water to help them heal.

SailAhead uses sailing and the ocean as a therapeutic platform to help veterans heal the scars of war. Since the winter of 2013, SailAhead has helped hundreds of brave men and women suffering from various service related physical disabilities and illnesses including but not limited to Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The SailAhead crew of volunteers, skippers and veterans take pride in sailing many types of vessels all year long and in all weather. Veterans are not just tourists on the boats, they are an integral part of the crew. When headed out on their first voyage, veterans all start out as strangers and eventually become sailors through hands-on training. Their commitment to help disabled veterans does not stop upon arriving on land. SailAhead also provides a family to those who need extra support when experiencing difficult times.

Another mission of SailAhead is to raise PTSD and suicide awareness.
